Event management is a subset of facility management software and not the other way around. Facility management is NOT a subset of event management software.
Let me explain:
Mathematical Explanation
Subsets are a part of a larger group of related items. In terms of mathematics, a subset is a group of elements in a primary or larger set.
As you can see from the diagram below, A is a subset of B, meaning there is an interdependence between A and B. In this scenario, B is not a subset of A. In fact, in this type of relationship, B is the overarching set, and A is the subset.
Stay with me. This illustration is important when considering the appropriate relationship between facility management and event management.
Facility Management Software In The Set
If you haven’t guessed by now, facility management software is set B in the diagram above. Multiple components comprise this set, and they are as follows:
- Event scheduling
- Event registration
- Major system integrations (HVAC, door access, digital signage)
- Work order management, including preventative maintenance
- Life cycle planning
Additional components could also include asset management, inventory control, vendor management, etc.
The list above are elements of the entire set, while 1-3 are actually a compilation of related elements that create a subset. In this example, the subset would be event management software. Event scheduling, event registration, and major system integrations are related and interdependent of each other, creating a subset of facility management software.
Using this type of set to subset and corresponding elements as the basis of our understanding, we can determine that the set takes prominence of the subset. Therefore, you must have the set first, then you can group subsets.
Now, while I am making a case for the need for facility management software, with event management being a subset, I am trying to do more than sell software. I am trying to make the point – again – of how critical it is to have a well-rounded and inclusive facility stewardship initiative established at your church. This concept goes far beyond software. It is a mindset; software is only a tool to help you fulfill the mindset and vision.
